CESKY CRUFTS 17 Cesky Terrier CESKY JUDGE CRUFTS 17 Cesky Terriers I was thrilled & honoured to be invited by the Crufts committee to award the first set of CC’s to Cesky Terriers, it is a day I will hold very dear. I was a bit disturbed to be faced with so many varying grooming styles/patterns on the dogs, while I concede that no two people will interpret the breed’s unique grooming shape exactly alike, some were trimmed in such a way that it was almost detrimental to their dogs outline & head properties. Tailset & carriage has greatly improved, far fewer gay tails here today than when I last judged which is wonderful. Quality, on the whole is good, the open classes in particular possessed some lovely examples of the breed, making some decisions exceptionally close & thought provoking, the veterans, yet again, proving their worth & their staying power by giving the youngsters a good run for their money. The importers, breeders & exhibitors should be justly proud that they have brought the breed to CC standard, & I thank you all for bringing your lovely dogs under me. VD 1 RCC, Withers’ Int Ch Captain Crochet du Champ d’Eole, a superb dog, dark medium eyes, long muzzle , strong jaws, good earset, long, arched neck, well laid shoulders, good spring of ribs, topline rises gently over firm loins , well angled hind & stands parallel, feet well padded, long tailset on & carried correctly, coat is of good silky texture. Not moving as freely & propulsive as I have seen him before, but bucked up his ideas a bit in the challenge to take RCC. The first RCC awarded in the breed. PD 1 Tobijanski’s Janski Promises Jones, all quite raw puppies here, a pleasing head shape with strong jaws, lean neck into fair shoulders, good topline rising to firm hindquarters, good tailset, solid padding on feet, moved true; 2 Scott-Downie’s Janski Quintavius, colour still to clear, long head, ears set on close to cheeks, fairly wide across the chest, well ribbed, good rise to topline, moved out well with plenty of drive; 3 Lewis’ Janski Philosopher Dajaces, good body length, head is balanced with long muzzle & graduated back skull, quite wide in fore as he comes towards you, well boned, super feet, well presented. JD (0). PGD 1 Taylor’s Janski Ossie Jones at Polede, pale silver, best of heads with long muzzle leading to a gently widening back skull, good earset, lean neck, pleasing body shape, well muscled, moves out well in profile, but not parallel going away; 2 Marett’s Gayteckels Bak In The Abbott, larger male, dark eyes in long balanced head, good earset, short shoulders, long strong loins, good topline rising gently, muscular all through, moved out well in profile. LD 1 Lewis’ Ridley Xanto for Dajaces, elegant male, head proportions are good, a definite blunt triangle shape, good bite & jaws, arched muscular neck, well laid shoulders, straight forelegs, well ribbed, would like a better topline as he tends to flatten, long hindquarters, good tailset & carriage, moved out true with desired propulsion; 2 Brocks’ Talyot Hermes, chunky fellow, good earset, muscular neck leading into equally muscular shoulders, good bone, well sprung ribbing, firm hindquarters used well on the move. OD 1 CC & BOS, Rutskaya’s Norkinstein Charlie Chaplin, dark silver, masculine, with long muzzle & good width of skull, dark eyes, high set ears carried close, a shade thick in neck, well laid shoulders, straight forelegs, good bone, good spring of ribs, perhaps a little short in loins for perfection, best of toplines held in stance & on the move, well angled hind with parallel hocks, good tailset, moved with the characteristic brisk & positive action, coat is silky & correct. Pleased to award him the first ever Cesky Terrier CC; 2 Tobijanski’s Janski Blue Moon, this dog presents a more elegant outline, shade short in muzzle but good length of skull, with strong jaws, lean muscular neck on good shoulders, good depth of brisket & fair spring of ribs, well angled hindquarters, good tailset & carriage, movement was true but had a tendency to lose his outline; 3 Richardson & Wilson’s Ch Alchemy Chalma Figaro Talyot, darker fellow, admired his head proportions, good easet with quality leathers, well laid shoulders, lean muscular neck. straight forelegs, good ribbing, well angled hind, although true in movement it was somewhat hesitant & lacked drive. GCD 1 Forbes’ Blackthorpe River Musk at Lastarean, VHC in a strong OD class, moved better in this class, good strong, lean headpiece, well angled fore & aft, good rise to topline in stance, in firm muscular condition. VB 1 CC, BOB, Tobijanski’s Janski Celtic Ceska, pale silver, & can only echo what has been written before about this beautiful bitch, she has one of the best heads, neither too Sealyham nor too Scottie, neat, high set ears, lean muscular neck into well laid shoulders, well sprung ribs, with firm loins of correct length, rising topline which she held at all times, gentle sweep over the croup, well angled hind with parallel hocks, moved true with drive & propulsion, I thought her near perfect when I judged her in 2010, the years have been kind & she remains a ‘tour de force’ in her 10th year; 2 Burrages’ Vandell Sweet Song of Sametova, lovely bitch, so attentive, a shade lighter in frame, long lean head with good jaws, lean neck into shapely shoulders, presented a lovely balanced outline of good proportions, well angled hind & used to advantage with good driving movement; 3 Harris’ Pendevour Pheel The Music, made up a trio of beautiful bitches, similar in outline & proportions to 2, head balanced & in proportion, leading into a lean muscular neck, well bodied, firm rise to topline, very unsettled on the move. PB 1 BP, Fewings Komidion Passionato, spirited & precocious young lady! Full of quality, head is already shapely & long with dark eyes. Lean arched neck into well laid shoulders, straight forelegs, topline gently sweeps upwards towards firm loins, good tailset, pleasing silky coat. Saw enough in movement to award her BP, but she needs to settle to her job; 2 Tobijanski’s Janski Pizzovski, more mature, long head with good jaws & bite, good shoulders but steep upper arm, shapely body, moved out with drive & purpose; 3 Burrages’ Komidion Prima Donna, feminine in head & expression, good earset, straight front, good outline, looked a little raw in comparison to 1 & 2 but will soon catch up, moved out smartly. JB 1 Marett’s Gayteckels Bottoms Up, busy little Miss, loved her head shape, long muzzle with tapered clean skull, dark eyes, lean neck into well angled shoulders, well ribbed back, one of the few with forechest, strong well angled hind, moved out purposefully, strongly considered for top honours; 2 Williams & Jackson’s Euphoriastaff Celeste at Wherrypoint, sweet youngster, feminine with required strength in head & expression, lean muscular neck, a little steep in fore, well ribbed, well angled hind, moved out well; 3 Dooners’ Ridley Aiobhinn, firm under the hand, looked a bit ‘doggy’ on the go around, but perhaps a closer trim would serve to enhance this girl, pleasing well angled fore & hind with a topline that stayed put in stance & on the move. PGB 1 Thomson & Forbes’ Karansbrae Frozen Heart, silver, a shade strong in head but with good shape & high set ears, arched neck on well laid shoulders, firm straight forelegs, long well sprung ribbing, well angled hind, in good quality coat, moved true; 2 Richardsons’ Pajantick Aphrodite at Talyot, darker girl, feminine in head & expression, long shoulders, straight forelegs, well ribbed, good topline, needs to mature on still, beautifully handled & presented. LB 1 Fewings Karansbrae Warm Hugs for Komidion, lovely bitch, long head & muzzle with dark eyes & high earset, lean neck on well laid shoulders, good bone, straight forelegs, gentle sweep up to her loins, good tailset & carriage, well angled hind, just a bit too ‘casual’ on the move; 2 Harris’ Kessima Magic Moments, lovely balance to her head, long but not overdone, arched muscular neck on good shoulders, well ribbed, topline is a little flat, well angled hind giving a typical brisk movement; 3 Rusby’s Placido Barbarette, left the ring before I could write a critique. OB What a smashing class of dogs, every one of them deserved a place in the line-up. Be justly proud of every one of them, I sincerely hope Mr Horak looked down & smiled to see such a wonderful sight! 1 Tobijanski’s Janski Ultra Violet, pleases in head shape & expression with strong jaws & good width of skull, lean neck on well laid shoulders, well sprung ribs of good length, gently rising topline with good sweep of croup, firm well angled hind used well on the move, silky coat, a worthy daughter of Ceska; 2 Forbes’ Oneva Erica at Karensbrae, another Veteran who looks better & better with age, strong muzzle, well set ears carried close to clean cheeks, long muscular neck on good shapely shoulders, straight in forelegs, good ribbing, well angled hind, parallel in hind, moved out briskly; 3 Harris’ Lastarean Knezna Lenka, so lovely to see a dog show on a loose lead, the head of this bitch is so balanced, with level earset leading into an arched neck, well angled limbs fore & hind, coat is silky & well presented, correct rising topline, muscular all through, moved out smartly. GCB 1 RCC, Atter’s Int Ch Ridley Pamatka, another veteran who belies her years. Darkest of eyes, slight arch of skull & earset is perfect, strong jaws, lean neck into well laid shoulders, topline was firm on the move & standing, well ribbed, firm well angled hindquarters, parallel hocks & perfect tailset & carriage. She was a little unsettled in this class, but came into the bitch challenge with a better attitude & stormed around the ring, striding out for all she was worth; 2 Forbes’ O Erica at K; 3 Thomson & Forbes’ K Frozen Heart.
