CESKY BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 23 Judge: Mr Veli-Pekka Kumpumaki (Finland) CESKY JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 23 First I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU for such a HUGE entry! I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard about it: an entry of 39 Cesky terriers! Unbelievable. It made me very humble but also very happy. I saw the very first Imports to Finland in the early eighties. They were very timid in their behaviour and they kept the tails always between their hind legs. I am pleased that the temperaments have improved a lot but there is still work to do on this matter! I was very pleased with my winners. I think they were great examples of the breed and of correct type. I think they could do well everywhere. I see that two kennels did particularly well. Congratulations! I was looking for correct toplines but did not find too many. Some were looking like the Ski jumping towers. The well arched loin is important and the croup should have some length too. Some heads were too heavy, some fronts too narrow, some toplines were flat. Some were looking depressed. The coat should have silky sheen. I saw a couple of young brindles and one black. They still have time on their side. The most worrying thing was the incorrect bites of which I found too many. The breed standard asks for” strong jaws with a perfect regular and complete scissor bite. Please keep this on mind. I found some promising young ones and well kept Happy oldies. I am very grateful for You All for letting me see your Ceskies, I appreciate it a LOT especially as it was the Day of the Coronation. Well there is a new Queen and a new King in the UK. And they were worth it! 1 Ellison, Placido Proper Player. Good size, nice head and expression, good ears, still empty in forechest and needs to deepen with time, nice topline, tail could be lower set, good silky coat texture, needs more training. 1 Halling & Atter, Ridley Atticus.
