CAIRN JUDGE SOUTH WALES 09

Cairn Terriers

When judging I try & focus on the positive. As breeders we aim to breed the perfect dog but every dog has faults & it is so easy at times to focus on a dog’s fault & to miss the really good points. The perfect dog has yet to be bred. It is what we are all striving to do.

Temperament in the breed is wonderful & this is something I think at times we take for granted, yet it is so important. A lot of dogs were short in coat, but had correct harsh coats coming through. I found some heads to be disappointing, lacking stop & some were snippy. Movement was mixed.

PD (2)

1 Weinberger’s Correnie Tornado, well grown puppy who made his handler work hard to keep his attention. Good head, adequate stop, nice eyes, full of mischief, nice reach of neck, correct topline & tailset, good rear angulation. Needs to settle in front movement;

2 Soper’s Elticharm Dream Boy, nice head proportions, preferred the eye of 1. Correct bite, nice neck, good shoulder placement, correct topline & tailset. Needs to develop in chest & settle in front but is still a baby.

JD (4)

Good strong head, neat ear, correct bite, nice eye, good neck, nice shoulders, good topline, nice rear angulation, harsh coat, moved well when settled. Just lost out in the challenge as he would not settle on the move;

2 Soper’s Uniquecottage Ring Plover, coat not at its best but it is harsh. Not as strong a head as 1. Correct bite, neat ear, nice eye, adequate reach of neck, good topline. Moved a little close in front.

PB (4,1)

1 Thomas’ Tycando Starlet, how aptly named as she is one in the making, beautiful head, wonderful expression, eyes full of mischief & that look at me attitude, nice reach of neck, good shoulder placement & length of upper arm, good topline & tailset, nice rear angulation. She is a baby who just needs to settle on the move but this should come with maturity. Pushed hard for RCC. BP;

2 Soper’s Elitecharm Brindled Beauty, one whose head needs time to mature. Has correct ear placement, correct bite. Preferred eye of 1. Nice reach of neck, good topline & tailset, in good coat;

PGB (3)

1 Innet & Harrison’s Noncom Minnie The Minx at Carradine, to appreciate this bitch you really have to have your hands on her, so well constructed, good head, nice stop, neat ear, correct bite, has a lovely expression, nice reach of neck, good shoulders, forechest & front, correct topline & tailset, good rear angulation, moves effortlessly, pushed hard for BOB. CC;

OB (5,3)

1 Wren’s Larchlea Light My Fire, ultra feminine, no doubt she is a bitch, nice head, correct eye placement, good ears, correct bite, nice reach of neck, good topline & tailset, nice rear. Very short in coat, would like a little more body on her. She really did not like the cold & it showed on the stand;

2 Fielder’s Miradorose Little Gem, bigger type than 1, but is a nice shape. Good head proportions. Would like a little more layback of shoulder. Good topline & tailset, moves well behind. Preferred the front movement of 1.
