Thank you to the National Terrier Committee for inviting me to judge at their 2023 show. This judging appointment was originally for 2021 but was postponed due to COVID and rescheduled, so thank you to the Exhibitors for their entries, these were all new dogs for me to go over as I hadn’t judged since Crufts 2018.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS (1)

1 Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Quiet Reflections, light grey brindle bitch, attractive head with dark eye. Good length of neck into level topline, harsh coat coming in. A little apprehensive on the table but moved and showed confidently. BSB

MPD (1,0)

1 Saich’s Lindcoly Sunny (naf), profuse cream double coat, good head, nice large teeth with correct scissor bite. Level topline and good tailset. A little reticent to move so difficult to assessment movement today.

JD (3,2)

1 Jones & Arnold’s Tycadno Tom Foolery, cream with striking masculine head and desired dark points. Good length of neck, level topline and good tailset. Nicely bodied, good front, rear movement a little close today.

GD (1)

1 Lucas’s Seveek Country Lad, grey brindle, coat of good texture but short at the moment. Nice head, dark eye, needs head furnishings to complete the picture. Level topline and correct tailset. Moved ok.

LD (4)

1 Petts’ Doonrae Sentinel smart red brindle, well balanced liked his size and shape. Attractive masculine head, dark eye and good mouth. Good length of neck into level topline, correct tailset. Well muscled hindquarters. Coat of good texture. Moved and showed well. Pleased to award him DCC & BOS. I was told after that this was his 3rd and makes him up subject to CC approval. Congratulations.

2 Shannon, Storr & Middlehurst’s Brenndarcy It’s Magic (AI), cream with dark points, lovely head and expression. Smaller than 1st. Good spring of rib, level topline and correct tailset. Good quality double coat. Moved ok.

3 Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Grey Borage

OD (2)

Two very different types.

1 Firth’s Ch. Cairngold Chico JW, quality red in good coat, nice head with good stop and correct mouth. Well laid shoulders into level topline and correct tail set. Good spring of rib. RDcc

2. Dennis, Goddard & Waites Ch Good Times Ahead With Oudenarde, lovely masculine head and expression, good length of neck into level topline. Coat of good texture, not moving as freely as 1st today.

VD (1)

1 Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Dark Charmer For Macmoon Sh.CmVw, sprightly 9 year old, good front, level topline, coat texture a little soft. Moved and showed well.

MPB (1)

1 Saich’s Lindcoly Let It Be, 7mth wheaten brindle, nice shape and size, good length of neck, level topline, correct tailset and good front. Coat short but of good harsh texture. Moved true both front and rear. Promising puppy. BP

PB (7,1)

1 Munday’s Furythor Marvel At Me, dark brindle, typical head and expression. Good length of neck, level topline, correct tailset, coarse coat. Nicely muscled, showed well.

2 Saich’s Lindcoly Here Comes Oh Shi, light grey brindle, lovely head and expression, uses ears well. Nicely muscled, moved ok.

3. Smith’s Cloverbrook Shining Star Over Gethlee

JB (4,1)

1 Osborn’s Tweslam Be Gin Again At Tweslam, wheaten brindle, nice head, dark eye. Good length of neck, level topline and good tailset. Moved well.

2 Bubb’s Wandris Please Yourself JW, dark brindle with lovely head and expression. Good spring of rib. Coat of correct texture, carrying a little extra weight today, moved ok.

3. Dennis & Waites Svendalens Snow Drop

GB (5)

1 Firth’s Birselaw Cora At Cairngold, dark brindle, lovely head with mischievious expression. Not a big bitch but nicely balanced. Good spring of rib, level topline and good tailset. Coat of correct texture. Moved and showed well. RBcc

2. Inett & Harrison’s Carradine Precious Pumpkin Pie, attractive red brindle with lovely dark points. Good front, nice spring of rib, level topline with good tailset. Well muscled, moving a little close behind today.

3. Osborn’s Tweslam Chasing Rainbows

PGB (5,0)

1 Osborn’s Tweslam Be Gin The Magic (AI), smart red, lovely head and expression. Nicely balanced, level topline, good length of leg, moved and showed well.

2 Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Can’t Get Enough, lovely cream with dark points, good neck and shoulders into level topline. Would benefit from moving a little quicker.

3 Saich’s Lindcoly Phantom Menace

LB (6,1)

1 Felters & Rumens Birselaw Caol Ila At Landbuck JW, attractive animated red brindle bitch, lovely head and expression. Nicely balanced, good spring of rib, well placed shoulders and good length of neck into level topline with correct tailset. Good turn of stifle, moved with drive, showed well. BCC & BOB. Represented the breed well in the group.

2 Thompson’s Castleline Maitree, nicely balanced cream bitch. Lovely head and expression, dark eye and good mouth. Level topline and correct tailet. Moved well.

3 Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Quiet Reflections

VB (1)

1 Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn At Gethlee, 7 year old cream bitch with dark points. Good spring of rib, level topline and quality coarse coat. Moved well. Took BV over the veteran dog on coat quality.
