The temperaments of every cairn present were excellent, and presentation for many exhibits was first rate. I found more cairns than I expected with poor movement, particularly at the front. Overall, I found the day very enjoyable and was impressed with the high level of quality cairns in the entry. Best of Breed was the Dog, Roberts Cannwood Cut Above, with Dolans Glenrood Masquerade taking the Bitch Ticket. The Best Puppy on the day was the dog Cannwood Royal Appointment PD (2,0a) 1st Roberts’ Cannwood Royal Appointment: A well-constructed wheaten, lovely head and expression, eyes and ears well placed, good reach of neck. Nice length of leg, moved correctly front and back, showed well. 2nd Waites’ Svendalens Snow Knight: Wheaten, a good length of back and good length of leg, nice ear and tail carriage. He didn’t move as well as 1. Coat was not at its best JD (3,0a) 1st Bateman & Gompels’ Carradine Terries Tipple: A well-presented wheaten dog with a profuse coat. Typical head and ears well set on, nice dark points and eyes wide apart He had good strength in his hind quarters, and an excellent length of leg ensuring correct movement. Good tail carriage. 2nd Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Borgen: A wheaten dog with typical expression, nice dark hazel eyes. Like 1, he had strong quarters and a good length of leg, although a little unsettled in the ring, his movement let him down on the day PGD (3,1a) 1st Burgin’s Noncom Hugo First: A brindle dog, typical cairn expression, an excellent stop with good ear and tail carriage. With good length of back and leg, he moved well round the ring with a very free flowing stride . He was well presented, and he showed well. 2nd Byrne & Inett’s Carradine Brian The Lion: Grey brindle, with a good coat. Nice dark hazel eyes and well-furnished head, he showed a typical cairn expression. Showed well. A nicely proportioned dog, he moved well in front, had a good length of leg, but lacked the drive of 1 LD (5,1a) 1st Thompson’s Castleline Bang On Time: Dark brindle , with typical cairn head, good stop and expression. A good scissor bite with nice large teeth. He moved well in front. Good reach of neck, level back, and good tail set. 2nd Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There And Back Again: A natural cairn expression, with a good weather resistant double coat. Once he settled he moved correctly. Nice reach of neck, and a good length of back, OD (6,0a) 1st Roberts’ Cannwood Cut Above: Wheaten. A really keen expression with a very well furnished and strong head, with his double coat, harsh outercoat and soft undercoat, in great condition. He had excellent reach of neck, nice sloping shoulders, well sprung rib, and a good level back. He moved well with drive from his rear quarters, with a good bend of stifle. Well presented, he showed a lively nature, and definitely enjoyed himself in the ring. Dog CC and Best of Breed. 2nd Felters & Rumens’ Ch Landbuck Tillisch: A lovely red dog. Well proportioned with good length of leg and a correct firm top line. Well presented, he had an effective double coat, in excellent condition. He moved well using strong rear quarters to propel himself. He showed a lively disposition in the class, although seemed to lose interest in the challenge. Reserve Dog CC. PB (4,2a) 1st Keeves’ Seveek I Dreamed A Dream: A dark brindle pup with an attractive well-furnished head with mischievous dark eye, well coated, moved and showed well. This pup was definitely active, game and hardy, and was very much at home in the ring. 2nd Bowness’ Birselaw Blithe Spirit: A red wheaten bitch with a good double coat. She had a typical head, and her dark hazel eyes wide apart made for a typical cairn expression. Unfortunately she didn’t settle at all in the ring on the day JB (5,1a) 1st Bateman & Inett’s Carradine In Love With Amy: A lovely wheaten bitch with a well-structured double coat and nice dark points, well furnished head, eyes wide apart and with well positioned ears gave her a typical cairn expression. Very strong quarters, good length of leg and a correct bend of stifle ensured she moved round the ring freely. Very well presented. 2nd Keeves’ Seveek Living The Dream: A very well balanced red bitch with a good forechest, excellent front and level top line of correct length, With good length of back and leg, she moved well, freely and with purpose within the ring. PGB (9,1a) 1st Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Snedronningen Jw: This wheaten bitch had a good harsh outer coat and a nice soft undercoat. A good level back with good tail set. Well-muscled quarters which showed through in her lovely free movement demonstrating plenty of drive from the rear, good bend of stifle, and strong thick pads. 2nd Inett, Harrison, King & Leighton Carradine I Am Florence With Harkinleigh: A lovely red brindle bitch, well-constructed. Nice reach of neck flowing into correct shoulders, well sprung ribs and a good level back. A well made lively Cairn with strong quarters, she moved well but not as well as 1 LB (5,2a) 1st Kinton’s Woodthorpe Maybe This Thyme: Grey Brindle, her dark hazel eyes wide apart made for a typical cairn expression, with excellent ear and tail carriage. A good harsh outer coat and a nice soft undercoat. She stood well forward on her forepaws, and with strong muscular thighs and a good length of leg ensuring she moved both freely and with purpose within the ring. (Reserve Bitch CC) 2nd Dolan’s E Castleline Peggy Sue: Red Wheaten, nicely presented, good reach of neck, and well sprung ribs. Well-constructed, with correct movement from all quarters. Nice large teeth with proper bite. OB (6,1a) 1st Dolan’s Ch Glenrood Masqerade: A lovely wheaten brindle bitch in excellent coat. She had a typical Cairn expression with well-placed ears and lovely dark hazel eyes. Good shoulder placement, nice deep wel sprung ribs, excellent length of leg, and strong quarters, with a good bend of stifle, ensured that she moved correctly, with very strong movement all round. With her lively manner, her tail set correct & tail carried correctly at all times in the ring, she never stopped showing and she really enjoyed the ring experience, (Bitch CC) 2nd Clarke’s Conundrum Sweeter For Me For Lentrica Jw Sh.Cm: Red brindle bitch, A typical head and strong jaw with large teeth and an obvious scissor bite .A very well balanced bitch with a good forechest, excellent front and level topline of correct length, With good length of back and leg, she moved well with purpose within the ring. Cairn Terrier

Firstly, I would like to thank the Committee of Manchester Dog Show Society for the invitation to judge, and for their hospitality, my stewards for all their efforts, and all those exhibitors who entered on the day.

The temperaments of every cairn present were excellent, and presentation for many exhibits was first rate. I found more cairns than I expected with poor movement, particularly at the front. Overall, I found the day very enjoyable and was impressed with the high level of quality cairns in the entry.

Best of Breed was the Dog, Roberts Cannwood Cut Above, with Dolans Glenrood Masquerade taking the Bitch Ticket. The Best Puppy on the day was the dog Cannwood Royal Appointment

PD (2,0a)

1st Roberts’ Cannwood Royal Appointment: A well-constructed wheaten, lovely head and expression, eyes and ears well placed, good reach of neck. Nice length of leg, moved correctly front and back, showed well.

2nd Waites’ Svendalens Snow Knight: Wheaten, a good length of back and good length of leg, nice ear and tail carriage. He didn’t move as well as 1. Coat was not at its best
