CAIRN JUDGE LEEDS 17

Leeds Dog show was the first I ever visited, this was 25 years ago and I had a pet Cairn Terrier called Darcy, so I was delighted with my invitation. Not a massive entry which made it difficult to judge to type, there is quite a variance in type these days sadly not all fitting our breed standard. Bitches were of overall better quality.
Due to the early morning Monsoon weather conditions a lot of the males still had damp coats. This also delayed judging.
Thank you to all my exhibitors some of whom travelled a long way.

1st: Peers’ Tweedisle Lively Lad, attractive 10 months old wheaten brindle with a good head, excellent mouth, good stop, correct earset and forechest. Liked his size and overall make and shape, lovely showman who handled himself well on the grass. Good bone and conformation. Moved well going away. Pleased to award him BPIB.

2nd: Reeves' Cairngold Bubbles, another good male puppy who when focused stood well, he has a lovely shaped eye and attractive head with those desirable dark points. Not as well schooled as one on the move, but has a good front and rear when settled. Good bone, an all round promising youngster.

A difficult class to judge, dogs of different type, stage and quality.

1st: Ball's Lentrica Let's Dance At Calamondin, up to size 18 months wheaten brindle, won this class on movement, excellent head with dark points. Correct dentition. Although coat not at its best he handled well and was in good body condition. Would prefer him to be a tad smaller all round.

2nd: Smith's Rocasovale Danish Delight, smaller and maturer all round than one. This two year old handled and moved well. Loved his head, coat of correct texture and in good condition. tailset and top line ok .

3rd: Goud’s Vale Of Atholl's Earl Of Mansfield

1st: Catto’s Birselaw Stay With Me, dark brindle won this class on movement. excellent showman, shown in full coat of good texture, plenty of forechest. Pleasing head and expression, pleased to award him the RDCC

2nd: Waugh's Tribuns Licorice Coin At Tribannon (Imp), rangier than one, side movement bang on, but was erratic at times when going fore and aft. Tail set good, close decision, just preferred showmanship of 1.

3rd: Keeves’ Seveek I Spied That Dream

1st: Weinberger's Correnie Hurricane Fly, I gave this handsome 3 yr old wheaten brindle the RDCC last time I judged. On form today, pleased that he has matured well. Moved, showed and handled well for his owner. Well deserved DCC

1st: Firth's Cairngold Carolina, 11 months. Loved this outgoing red bitch, excellent front, topline and tailset. dark points adding to a very attractive head with ex stop & good mouth, showed and handled well. Good bone and forechest,. Bright future.

2nd: Soper's Elitecharm Five Of Diamonds, I liked this 10 month old wheaten. Steady alert and pretty showgirl, nice make and shape & moves soundly. Good head with definite stop. Different type to, but close up on 1, her coat letting her down today, but a good one coming through. Another one to watch in the future.

1st: Miller’s Cornton Starr Turn, "One the judge would like to take home" comes to mind, super well balanced 14 month old wheaten brindle show girl, in good harsh coat with correct mouth, good stop, front, topline, tailset and forechest. Feminine head and expression, being on her own in the ring didn't spoil her enthusiasm. Showed all out.

A lovely class of up and coming future stars. not enough cards to go round.

1st: Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn At Gethlee, another ultra feminine bitch, cream with those desirable dark points, one I have admired from afar. just out of junior she is steady on the move with a good straight front. level topline and correct tailset. well presented and handled. One who's character shows through. Challenged hard to win her class and gain the RBCC

2nd: Felters & Rumens’ Lentrica Fame At Landbuck, another I have admired from afar and not disappointed. Good steady mover, well constructed, good front movement when settled. shown in good coat and condition. Liked her make and shape. Another just out of junior and maturing well.

3rd: Firth & Firth’s Lentrica Black Star For Cairngold

1st: Percy’s Winetta I've Got A Feeling. This 18 month old Wh brindle with dark points excels in head, she is so feminine. Good front, excellent mover all ways. Shown in ex coat and condition. Liked her overall make and shape. pressed hard for top honours.

2nd: Miller’s Cornton Rosemaree, unlucky to be up against one. Another quality bitch from this kennel, sound with a good coat and moved well.

Ob (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Clarke’s Ch Lentrica Dolly Daydream Jw. Very confident show girl. Attractive outline, well presented and handled, worthy champion, this bitch has everything in the right place. Moved well both ways BCC & BOB - Shortlisted in group.

2nd: Keeves’ Seveek Hopes N' Dreams Jw Sh.Cm. this girl is lovely to go over, so well constructed, coat, tailset, topline all in order. But like her litter brother (3rd in LD) lacks focus on her showmanship. Hope she gets her act together soon.

3rd: Osborn’s Tweslam Born To Bewitch.

Vb (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Felters & Rumens’ Ch Landbuck Jazz Hands Jw, at 9 years old she was one of the best movers of the day. There are so many Cairns in the show ring today without her "Drive". This Bitch is so well put together, hard to fault her, she belies her age. Sound, good and attractive head, good coat texture. Top show girl!

2nd: Smith’s Glenmear Sproxton Lass Of Gethlee, 9 Year old dark brindle, larger all round than one, presented in good coat, moved steadily with encouragement from handler, she just didn't have the enthusiasm of 1 today.
