CAIRN JUDGE DRIFFIELD 09

The quality is in the bitches and when I say this I am in no way intimating that the quality of my two main male winners is compromised. But generally in the males the position is quite concerning. There are a few good males coming through but not many and I sincerely hope that when breeders are choosing pups they run on at least one male in the litter otherwise we shall soon be in big trouble with studs.

I judged first and foremost for soundness, closely followed by type and then movement. Animals do not like strong winds and Cairns are no exception, a few were clearly upset and did not give of their best but in the main most exhibits coped well with the windy conditions which was a temperament test.

Because of the long grass and the obvious smells, feathers and other bits and bobs on the ground, I had to give a little on movement which could not be assessed properly.

I was quite surprised to find what I would class as incorrect mouths on exhibits belonging to seasoned exhibitors. And whilst on the subject of mouths, I found some dirty teeth!

Thank you to all who braved the weather.

MPD (1 Entries) Abs: 1

PD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: SOPER’s Elitecharm Dream Boy, well grown cream, masculine head with good flow of neck, lovely big teeth. Straight front, strong body. Harsh coat. Attentive to his owner, promising.

JD (5 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: WALL’s Cloverbrook Ray of Sunshine Over Shearwater, light red of correct size, nice type, balanced. Carried his head well on a neck of correct length & angulation. In hard condition. Showed with spirit.

2nd: WARNE’s Spirebrooke Dawn Raider, presented very well with a coat in good condition. I liked his overall make and shape, nothing to dislike about him. He looked more finished than the winner but seemed a little sluggish today.

3rd; SHANNON & STORR’s Brenndarcy Trouble At Mill

YD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Spirebrooke Dawn Raider

PGD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: MARSHALL’s Strathgarten Crackerjack, loved his head, fabulous expression, good front, neck and shoulders. Level topline, good spring of rib. In good textured coat. Showed well but the he was a little upset by the wind and did not use his ears today.

2nd: PURVIS’ Mosspur Licensed To Thrill, wheaten, not quite the ring presence of winner & a bit rangier. Correct size. Head needed more furnishings and his outline would be improved with a general tidy up all over. Preferred movement of winner.

LD (5 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: SMITH’s Rocasovale Razzle Dazzle, strong male up to size. Strong skull, deep stop & neat ears. Fantastic Cairn expression. Good bite. Adequate flow of neck, well placed shoulders, level topline, strong rear. Enough bone. Presented well in a coat of good texture, showed and moved well. CC

2nd: KING & LEIGHTON’s Carradine Night Listener At Harkinleigh, good headed grey, strong body, level topline, nice type but too much hair left on under belly which made him look unbalanced. Showed well.

3rd: KING & LEIGHTON’s Carradine May Be The Moon At Harkinleigh

OD (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: GRAINGER’s Ch Devil In Disguise, correct seized red, coat of good texture nearly all the way through. Loved his head, expressive dark eyes and overall make and shape. Moved and showed well. RCC

2nd: MOSELEY & INETT’s Spawyche Elizabethan Onyx, grey brindle in full coat. Good neck and shoulders, stylish and balanced. Preferred rear movement of winner.

MPB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: OSBORN’s Tweslam Maid By Magic, I wish I could make one like that! Balanced red, with a most feminine head. Pleasing in outline & balance. Front, neck & shoulders all OK and kept her topline on the move. Correct tailset. Front and rear movement both good especially when one considers how old she is. Very promising, BP

2nd: PETTS’ Doonrae Joie De Vivre, looked less mature and finished than winner but nevertheless a promising pup. Good head & expression, well balanced and of correct conformation. Has a much tighter coat than winner which meant that she did not have the furnishings to complete the picture. Another time, another place!

PB (6 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: OSBORN’s Tweslam Winter Magic, another nice pup, similar to winner of MPB which is not surprising as she is her litter sister. A darker red, again well balanced and she moved and showed well.

2nd: SHANNON & STORR’s Brenndarcy Virginia Plain, another one who will need some time to mature. At the moment she looks raw but she has everything in the right place, needs more body and coat. Showed well.

3rd: SOPER’s Elitecharm Brindled Beauty

JB (8 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: SHEARSMITH’s Cloverbrook Cream O'the Crop at Eborvale, took my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Stylish red, beautiful head & expression, presented well. Nice type, with a good length of neck and back. Correct construction throughout. Moved well when settled and showed well. Really promising.

2nd:TEMPLETON’s Larchlea Can't Remember. What a cheeky madam she is! Liked her a lot, nice expression, balanced in good hard condition, well presented coat. Showed very well indeed. Preferred movement of winner.

3rd: BRAYBROOK’s Cloverbrook Xtra Factor

YB (8 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: INETT & HARRISON’s Noncom Minnie The Minx At Carradine. Loved this light grey brindle for her type and soundness. She carries her head particularly well and she is one of the few Cairns about displaying that lovely flow of neck which gives that finishing touch to her outline. Correct in all departments, kept her topline on the move and she did move well both fore and aft and showed to perfection. CC and BOB.

2nd: SHANNON & STORR’s Brenndarcy Button It JW, another sound one, good Cairn head & expression. Nice size, good front and forechest. Balanced , unlucky to meet one in such fine form.

3rd: BURGIN’s Noncom Miss Hat He Chewed

PGB (8 Entries) Abs: 3

1st: BRADSHAW’s Newfield Dawn Spirit, smart red of correct size and balance. Sound in all departments, stood well forward on forepaws. Responded well to her handler and moved steadily. In good coat and condition.

2nd: MOSELEY’s Carradine Sapphire At Spawyche, heavier build than winner. Expressive head, balanced and well constructed. Preferred the neater outline of winner.

3rd: BURGIN’s Noncom Lucy Locket

LB (7 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: FELTERS & RUMENS’ Landbuck Jazz Hands JW, smart cream, feminine head, level topline, strong body. In very good coat of correct texture, mature and finished. Very attentive to handler, moved OK. RCC.

2nd: WREN’s Larchlea Light My Fire, loved her type, head & expression. Sound in all departments but I thought she could do with a little more body and coat to complete the picture. Well worth persevering with, has many fine attributes. Close decision between 1, 2 and 3.

3rd: CLARKE’s Conundrum Sweeter For Me For Lentrica JW Sh.CM

OB (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: SHORT’s Glenchess Cut the Mustard, red in good coat, sound throughout. Strong Cairn head, good forechest, level topline, good tailset. Moved with drive. Would prefer a bit more length of neck and her fining down a little.

2nd: ROBINSON’s Cruzo Bannock Belle, different type to winner. Pleasing outline, carried her head well. Level topline, straight front and strong rear. Harsh coat. Alert showgirl.
