CAIRN CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 12 Judge: Mr Graham Peers BEST OF BREED : 5065 ROBINSON Mrs G M Ch Cruzo Bilbo Baggins CAIRN JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 12 Cairn Terriers Such a good entry, I enjoyed going over their dogs. Only a fool would try to justify a seemingly unexplainable act, so will leave well alone. I was delighted to have found nearly all exhibits had good mouths with decent sized teeth. A neck should be of medium length, not too short or too long – a few were too long. The problem of when going away – being too close & in some cases also partially cow-hocked. The bitches were far superior to the dogs until it came to BOB, which I awarded to the dog Ch Bilbo Baggins who, though not pulled out in the Terrier Group, represented the breed well in the main ring. MPD (3) 1 Waugh’s Tribannon War Dance, an attractive cream dog with dark points, still needing ring experience but moved soundly when coming or going. Lovely head with correct eye & ear placement, level topline with good tailset, good double coat of the required texture. BP, 2 Keeves’ Seveek Dare To Be Red, distinctive red dog, well up to size but needing to be a shade longer in back but scored over 3 in front movement, 3 Brown’s Becana Cockney Rebel. PD (3) 1 Bateman & Gompels’ Carradine Terries Tipple, wheaten with brindle dog built in good proportions & possessing an excellent head which he held correctly whilst on the move, one I liked very much & when selecting my best puppy dog, gave my reason to the handler for him missing out, 2 Bradshaw’s Newfield Harvest Moon over Brenndarcy, mature red brindle of a good size, head developing a distinct masculine expression, excellent neck with well angulated shoulders, overall balance was spoilt by being touch too long in the back; 3 Saich’s Lindcoly Sword In The Stone. JD (2) 1 Burgin’s Noncom Hugo First, brindle of nice size with correct length of leg, shown in a decent coat, well bodied with correct rib & coupling, well handled & moved soundly; 2 Saich’s Lindcoly Dark Knight, gr/br which fits the same description as given to 1 but lost out on coat. Another day, another judge & the positions could be reversed. GD (5) 1 Percy’s Winetta Stand And Deliver, r/br just out of Junior & maturing nicely, definitely masculine with a pleasing head & expression, straight front, good neck & pleasing topline, little loose at front but correct rear movement, well handled & presented in a good condition; 2 Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There And Back Again, well balanced gr/br of a good type, good head with correct stop & eye, level topline & correct tailset, a very close contest today, yet a dog which should do well for its owners when it reaches full maturity; 3 Newton’s Strathinver Specification. PGD (4) 1 Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Jumbuck, cream, well up to size, with a good masculine head, good neck, well bodied with correct rib & coupling, liked his overall balanced proportions, shown in full coat. One which certainly needs firm handling as given too much of the lead, he would take over. RCC; 2 Keeve & Bennett’s Seveek Who Dares Wins, well up to size wh/br with a pleasing profile, good head, stop & eyes, nicely bodied with decent spring of rib, correct movement & handled well; 3 Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Fable. LD (2) 1 Confue’s Anjofra I’m Not Going, good head well furnished with correct ear placement, correct colour & size of eye, good mouth with big teeth, with a good double coat of correct texture, presented a nicely balanced profile when standing, taken time but he has matured well; 2 Thompson’s Castleline Bang On Time, wh/br with a good black mask & dark ears, good body with correct rib & coupling, shown in full coat, well handled & moved well. OD (3) 1 Robinson’s Ch Cruzo Bilbo Baggins, handsome wheaten with the best of heads complete with dark points, small ears, dark eyes, & excellent mouth, with lovely balanced proportions & of the correct size, a quality dog of a good type which presents a super profile both standing & moving. CC & BOB; 2 King & Leighton’s Ch Carradine Night Listener at Harkinleigh, gr/br which makes the most of its good attributes, always makes the most of the ring & is a worthy ch but one was that little bit special; 3 Saich’s Lindcoly Dark Enterprise. GCD (1) 1 S Who Dares Wins. MPB (5) 1 Yates & Johnson’s Penley Hester, well handled & well trained youngster which put in a show that made others of the same age look babies. Feminine expression on a good head with small ears & the correct eye, well turned out & presented in excellent coat, head held as it should, high, whether standing or moving, a very good prospect at this stage; 2 Keeves’ I Dreamed A Dream, delightful wh/br youngster, nice head with big teeth & correct bite, straight front with medium bone, decent neck, level topline with good tailset, moved well; 3 Keeves’ Living The Dream. PB (5) 1 Robinson’s Cruzo Blueberry, smart wh/br with dark points, nice head with good stop & correct eye & ear placement, nicely turned out in good double coat of good texture, well constructed throughout with good neck, shoulders & topline, would liked a higher tailset but her movement & ring presence scored in her favour. BPB & RCC; 2 Confue’s Anjofra Moi Assi, similar to 1 but with a better tailset, yet still a youngster needing more time for her movement to settle down; 3 Bateman & Inett’s Carradine In Love With Amy. JB (8) 1 Rouillon’s Sweet Surprise Cloud Of Joy, wheaten with dark points, very nicely made of good proportions, good head with the correct eye to provide a lovely feminine expression, moved soundly but having a feeling of her being young, then asked her age & found she was a 10 month old puppy. I had no hesitation in selecting her as being the class winner; 2 Shaw’s Honeyhall Hearsay a wh/br who is waiting for a new coat to be at her best but is of a type which I favour, good head, clean neck & shoulders, level topline with good tailset, decent length of leg, well balanced & moves soundly; 3 Burnett’s Kilnyard Good Heavens. GB (7) I had to reverse my 1 & 2 choice in the line-up placing, as although standing with tail up, she had lost the alertness or interest that’s expected from a terrier; 1 Percy’s Winetta Rebel Rebel, wh/br with dark points, good head, neck & shoulders, level topline, good tailset, with good textured coat, moved well in front but would like a little more space at rear, shows continually; 2 Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Snedronningen, wheaten with good head & correct mouth, decent neck, level topline with good tailset, covered the ground well & much to like about her; 3 Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Snowy Egret. PGB (7) 1 Dolan’s Castleline Peggy Sue, wheaten which appears to show herself, quality head with nice expression, well bodied with correct ribcage, balanced in profile, moves with drive; 2 Kinton’s Playing For Tyme, gr/br with dark points, shown in full coat, good head, medium neck, nicely bodied with good spring to rib & correct coupling, handled & moved well; 3 Hawkins’ Mazlar Once Upon A Dream. LB (4) 1 Waugh’s Tribannon In The Limelite, wh/br with a good head which is enhanced by her black mask that provides for her gorgeous expression, nice to go over on the table & found correct shoulder placement, level topline, well set on tail, believe she moved soundly both ways but the handler could not control her exhilaration when being assessed for either of the two main awards – a pity; 2 Rouillon’s Ginger Rogers, wh/br of a slightly smaller size but fits into the Standard’s requirements, very well, enjoyed going over her on the table & found a good shaped head with good stop & a medium length muzzle, good bite with correct dentition, well balanced overall with an excellent flow from back of skull to tailset, moved soundly, as expected from her make-up, size was no handicap to her - she just came up along one I preferred just a little bit more; 3 Kinton’s Woodthorpe Maybe This Time. OB (8) 1 Waugh & Carlton-Smith’s Tribannon Guardian Angel, possesses virtually everything one could wish for in a Cairn show bitch, type, excellent head, deep stop, small ears, excellent neck & shoulders, level topline with correct tailset, shown in good coat, moved soundly both ways, holding her topline, when moving in profile, showed good reach & drive. CC; 2 Dolan’s Ch Glenrood Masqerade, quality bitch with an excellent balanced outline & one who’s aware of being so as she continually keeps showing when in the ring. Nice feminine head held high with a lovely line flowing down her neck into a level topline & ending at a tail, set well on, very sound & moved beautifully around the ring; 3 Shaw’s Honeyhall Hi ‘N’ Dry. GCB (1) 1 Brynes’ Little Miss Tonka, smartly turned out wheaten, good on the table & of a nice shape & size, handled & moved well, she looked to be enjoying her spell in the spot light & left me no alternative but to put her in 1 place.
