CAIRN JUDGE BORDER UNION 19

I would like to thank the Border Union Agricultural Society for inviting me to judge and also to my experienced stewards. With the potential threat of further adverse weather, it was a pleasure to be outside for the judging, the rain stayed away for just long enough! Thank you to those exhibitors who battled through floods and challenging driving conditions to get to the show. Unfortunately the ground was exceptionally sniffy with nearly every dog finding it hard to fight the urge to sniff the ground at some point!

All in all, the standard of dogs was good with some lovely potential dogs in the lower classes. It was lovely to see some new exhibitors in the ring too.

PD (2)

1 Felters & Rumens’ Landbuck Kingsman. Red brindle, well presented. Excellent connection with handler which showed particularly when on the move. Masculine head with correct eye shape and colour, strong large teeth. Held topline and tailset on move, moved with drive. A promising puppy, I look forward to seeing the rest of his career. BP, BPD.

2 Peers’ Tweedisle Jaunty Lad. Wheaten. Lovely head with correct expression with a dark eye. Used ears correctly. Correct dentition. Of good size, with good spring of rib. Shown a little naked today –not a bad thing as you got to see the true outline and tailset – all good. Another promising puppy.

JD (1)

1 Parker-Tucker’s Tom Trick’s Incredibly Islay Of Uniquecottage (Imp Swe). Shown in excellent condition coat and presented well. Head with a traditional expression and with a defined stop. Of correct size and balanced. Confident on the move and covered the ground well holding topline and tailset. Shame to see him on a class on his own.

PGD (4)

1 Owen’s Caldwell On Call. Grey wheaten, up to size and presented well in good coat. Pleasing masculine head with good stop and endearing expression, correct bite. Balanced, with a good lay of shoulder. Moved well and had good connection with handler.

2 Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Come Dancing With Macmoon JW ShCM. Grey brindle. Another dog with a pleasing head and expression. Pleasing eye, with neat and correct ear set. Good lay of shoulder, moved with focus and intent – held topline and tailset on the move.

3 Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Baldrick.

LD (2)

1 Firth’s Cairngold Chico. Red, correct size and balanced. Typy head with great expression, used his ears correctly whilst being shown. Strong big teeth with correct bite, good reach of neck which flowed nicely onto well set shoulders. Could have done with a little more coat from neck to show this. Well sprung ribs and well muscled. Moved with drive. A promising future for him. RD.

2 Miller’s Cornton Fyne Fettle. Wheaten brindle. Slightly larger than first, shown in good coat. Pleasing head, would prefer a slightly darker eye. Correct dentition. Covered the ground well showing a clean outline.

OD (6)

A lovely strong class. All with potential to do well.

1 Percy’s Ch Winetta Quest For Fame. Dark grey brindle. A pleasure to go over. Well presented and in good coat. Stunning head with good dark eye and skull shape and correct dentition. Excellent reach of neck onto well set shoulders. Good strong and well defined muscles. Clean topline and correct tailset. Moved with drive and purpose and freely. BD, BOB.

2 Owen’s Caldwell Call To Order. Grey wheaten. Close call between first and second. Good size well balanced and presented in full jacket. Gave his handler a challenge today, however, when settled you could see his movement was good. Stunning head of similar structure to PGD. Strong large teeth, correct bite.

3 Peers’ Tweedisle Lively Lad.
