CAIRN JUDGE BORDER UNION 13

Cairn Terriers

It was very good to be back in the ring after an enforced absence of three years & I would like to thank the committee for inviting me & also the exhibitors for giving me such a good entry of 38 Cairns. Most had to travel a considerable way & I am most grateful.

The day itself started well weather-wise, but unfortunately soon deteriorated into squalls & heavy rain showers.

Before our given start time I decided it would be prudent to move under cover. Unfortunately the indoor ring had been stripped of its original table & chairs so a search had to be made for these & a score board, these were found eventually & we were just about ready to start on time when we were invaded by soggy but friendly large dogs. A nearby judge in an outside ring had also decided to come inside & someone had advised his exhibitors, Irish Wolfhounds, that our ring was their indoor ring.

Confusion arose until a senior steward confirmed we were correct & moved on the hounds, but not before they had naturally left their perfume to put it mildly.

Some of our Cairns never really recovered from that & as you will imagine were not able to walk without sniffing the ground.

As both my steward & me were on our first ch show it was an entertaining & educational session. The lady was very good & most helpful.

When we at last started I was very pleased with the quality shown as my previous judging I found teeth not brilliant & the odd dirty bottom, but certainly not this time. The only point I would make would to ask societies to carry on with grooming advice, especially legs & feet.

PD (1)

1 Carter’s Cloverbrook Top Of The Bill at Caernwil, lively wheaten pup who went well, as would be expected needs match practice, correct front head & topline.

JD (3)

1 RCC, Catto’s Birselaw The Thrill Of It All, impressive young dog who no doubt will be another success story for these kennels, good topline & head, moved well;

2 Shaw’s Honeyhall Headboy, unlucky on day to be second, skittled a little on day & probably not shown off to his best because of the mentioned ring invaders, but all the signs are there of a quality exhibitor;

3 Miller’s Coreton Coulter.

PGD (2)

1 Fortune’s Eglish Willies Wee Man with Essdeef, gr/br, well muscled, full jacket, moved steadily & soundly;

2 Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Borgen, wheaten, good profile, a little light still but with exercise will muscle up.

LD (4)

1 Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There And Back Again, gr/br, strong powerful dog, good stature & went well;

2 Buchan’s Auchenkyle Superman Stan at Drayem, gr/br, solid workmanlike dog who unfortunately was not happy with surroundings & would not show to his best, on another day & venue will do well.

OD (3)

1 CC & BOB, Felters & Rumens’ Ch Landbuck Tillisch, solid red, moved as if he owned the ring, totally unfazed by any external influences, good head, stance & topline, was impressed by his overall bearing as the dominant male of the species;

2 Smith’s Ch Roscovale Razzle Dazzle, very well presented, good proportions, well shaped head, ears set right, good topline, moved well but not quite his day, could have been put off by ring invaders.

PB (3)

1 Osborne’s Tweslam Mystery Of Magic, delightful young wheaten with proportions already right, good head, shoulders & topline, full of enthusiasm as should be expected at that age, looking forward to monitoring her progress;

2 Berrecloth’s Sybster Sanderoma, young wheaten with a lot going for her, excellent proportions & could easily have been 1st on another day;

3 Brendarrcy Golden Girl.

JB (1)

1 Felters & Rumens’ Landbuck Xanthe, lively very pretty little lady, well proportioned, good head, shoulders & topline, should be worth watching in the future.

NB (1)

1 Bowness’ Birslaw Blithe Spirit, attractive wheaten with good topline, seemed to glide around the ring, well proportioned.

PGB (9)

1 Osborne’s Tweslam Thistle Be Magic, very well presented brindle, good proportions, head just right & am sure has a very bright future, unfortunate to come up against seasoned champions who just had the edge, her day will come;

2 Clarke’s Lentrica Sweet Sensation, good looking bitch who was possibly not at her best in her movement but well presented, as always from this Kennel, possibly upset by conditions;

3 Brenndarcy Bit Of Bother.

LB (5)

1 RCC, Smith’s Anjofra Plum Tart at Roscovale, solid muscled, well presented & went very well, good topline & well proportioned, not quite her day;

2 Usher’s Stryveling Polly Flinders, solid performer from this kennel, not quite up to the standards of others here;

3 B Bit Of Bother.

OB

1 CC, Kinton’s Ch Woodthorpe Maybe This Time, a very good solid performance from a well proportioned bitch, went like a steam engine, head & ear settings just right, good topline, shoulders;

2 Clarke’s Conundrum Sweeter For Me for Lentrica, an excellent example of Standard, she has done much & I hope will continue to do so;

3 Osborne’s Tweslam Winter Magic.
