CAIRN BORDER UNION 12 Judge(s): MRS CHRIS ROBERTS (CANNWOOD) Cairn Terriers Wellingtons were the order of the day, so a big thank you to the exhibitors for turning out under such atrocious conditions, & I hear that a couple of exhibitors literally risked life & limb in their efforts to get to the show! Judging started outside, but as soon as the dog judging was completed the rain came, so the remaining judging was carried out in the wet weather ring, which was barely adequate & somewhat water logged! However we managed. The quality of the bitch classes as usual out-weighed the quality of the dog classes. I found several dogs with dirty teeth & some surprisingly with not such good mouths. I was particularly looking for decent movement today ie parallel front & rear movement with the front legs reaching forward & being propelled by a well muscled strong rear, but it was almost like spotting a Dodo! On a more positive note my top winners were of the highest quality & their placings were well deserved. Just before the bitch judging we observed a minutes silence as I was informed that Doreen Shorter had passed away earlier that morning. PD (4) 1 Currie’s Stirlingview Stunning, 8 months r/br, lovely mischievous expression, good mouth with large teeth, well made youngster who won this class from strong competition. Well made front, moved well for such a youngster, topline & tailset spot on. He was a bit of a handful initially, but once settled he didn’t put a foot wrong; 2 Bradshaw & Shannon’s Newfield Harvest Moon over Brenndarcy, 9 months wh/br, another well made youngster, good masculine head, correct mouth, good topline & tailset, the best of showmen. However I felt that his front movement was not as positive as 1. Both are exciting prospects; 3 Burgin’s Noncom Hugo First. JD (3) 1 Percy’s Winetta Stand And Deliver, 17 months r/br, like his size & balance, best of heads, good mouth & neat ears, good neck & shoulders, liked his depth of brisket with best of toplines & tailset. Coat not at its best. Moved true when settled. RCC; 2 Felters & Rumen’s Landbuck Par Handy, 15 months dark brindle, masculine head, but short on furnishings around his nose & muzzle which made his head look out of proportion. Good topline & tailset, in good coat. Preferred the movement of 1. ND (1) 1 Fortune’s Eglish Spitting Image with Essdeeeff, red in short coat, happy chap, but likes his dinners too much which didn’t help his movement. PGD (4) 1 Buchan’s Auchinkyle Superman Stan at Drayem, dark brindle coat, which wasn’t at its best. Good head & mouth, good depth of brisket, well muscled hindquarters which was the engine house for his good driving movement, showed well; 2 Lattimer’s Birslelaw Sir Bobby, wh/br, best of heads with typical dark points, profuse coat of the correct texture. Not as positive on the move as 1; 3 Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There And Back Again. LD (1) Withheld award, this dog was not of sufficient merit to warrant placing within the first three. OD (5) 1 Felters & Rumen’s Ch Landbuck Tillisch, red in top condition. Last time I went over this dog was in 2010 at Southern Counties, when I gave him a 1st in junior. What I said then applies now, ‘Sound dog, moved well both fore & aft, strong masculine head, good front, level topline, good tailset, well muscled quarters, on his toes’. Has now matured & aspired to top honours & deserved the CC; 2 Braybrook’s Ch Cloverbrook Code Breaker, gr/br, best of heads & mouths, love his expression which is typical of this kennel. Good depth of brisket, level topline & good tailset. However he lost out on movement to 1; 3 Percy’s Winetta Ch Winetta Sir Percy. PB (8) 1 Petts’ Doonrae Lexicon Of Love, 6½ months wh/br, very feminine head, good mouth, neat ears, typical dark points, best of coats, level topline, good tailset, moved well for one so young; 2 Osborn’s Tweslam Thistle Be Magic, 8 months r/br, loved her feminine head & expression, good coat, beautifully presented as always from this kennel. I liked her overall appearance, but a bit reticent in moving. Two very nice young ladies; 3 Currie’s Stirlingview Surprise. JB (6) 1 Shaw’s Honeyhall Hearsay, 17 months wh/br, excellent coat & condition, best of heads & mouths, typical dark points, level topline, good tailset, good depth of brisket, well muscled quarters, moved OK; 2 Catto’s Birselaw Groovy Kind Of Love, 17 months wheaten, rangier type, very feminine head & expression, well set on neck flowing into good layback of shoulders. Would have liked a deeper brisket. Good topline & tailset, steady mover; 3 Winetta Unforgettable. NB (1) 1 Parkin’s Roachdee Toffee Crisp, wheaten with dark points, feminine head & expression, level topline. Steady on the move, but another who likes her food. PGB (11) 1 Kinton’s Woodthorpe Maybe This Time, gr/br, best of coats well presented with feminine head & expression, liked her conformation & workmanlike appearance. No frills, what you see is what you get, very sound on the move, showed well; 2 Waugh & Carlton-Smith’s Tribannon Guardian Angel, r/br, beautiful feminine head & expression, neat ears, has eyes that would melt snow, excellent front, level topline & tail well set on. Would have liked a bit more substance to complete the picture. She was a nightmare on the move & I found it very difficult to assess her movement on such a tight lead, as her front feet weren’t touching the floor; 3 Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Snedronningen. LB (6) 1 Cameron’s Stryveling Sweet Caroline, very feminine wheaten, best of coats, best of movers coping admirably with the conditions (she’s probably used to them by now). She stood out in this class & I seriously considered her for the CC but awarded her the RCC; 2 Warne’s Cloverbrook Carousel at Spirebrooke, gr/br, very feminine head & expression, good mouth. A lot to like about her, unlucky to meet 1 who was on top form; 3 Osborn’s Tweslam Winter Magic. OB (6) 1 Osborn’s Tweslam Maid By Magic, clear red with dark ears, very feminine head & expression with good mouth, excellent coat & condition presented beautifully. The ring was hers, one of the best movers of the day, very free flowing stride, helped by very muscular hindquarters. CC & BOB 2 Shaw’s Honeyhall High N Dry, wh/br, loved her head with the typical dark points. Shorter coupled than 1 but moved & showed well; 3 Waugh’s Tribannon In The Limelight. CHRIS ROBERTS |
