MINIATURE BULL NATIONAL TERRIER 10 Judge/s:Mrs Elaine Clark (Fourheatons) MINIATURE BULL JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 10 Miniature Bull Terriers It was a great privilege to judge an excellent entry of 44 dogs. Although there was no measure available on the day & while size matters, it should never be considered to the exclusion of the fundamentals of type & quality – both of which were present in abundance today. The discovery of the marker gene for PLL affords breeders the opportunity to work on size but I do hope they take a long term view of this, & not opt for a quick fix & thus abandon all the improvements we have seen in the breed in the last 10 years. I believe a more realistic approach is to work on size reduction over a few generations to ensure we retain balance, maximum substance for size, quality & the pre-requisite of Bull Terrier type. MPD (3) 1 Baines’ Danny Boy Springridge, smart 8 months white, sadly overwhelmed by the occasion. Masculine head with correct mouth, more width & fill would complete the picture. When he stood up he had a good neck, topline & a strong backend, hopefully he will settle in time; 2 Ackroyd’s Springridge Danny Zukko, b/w, 8 months, again overwhelmed by the noisy hall, quite difficult to assess but appeared very similar to 1. Perfect mouth but head rather longer & slightly taller than 1. PD (3) 1 Barrett’s Decadance Discovery Margins, fabulous little showman, this corking little 10 months b/br/w has an absolutely power-packed, egg shaped head, filled right up, broad, strong, wide & deep without exaggeration, mouth correct although 1 canine tight. Good reach of neck, straight front, broad chest & strong quarters which he used to full advantage on the move, super, masculine & typy youngster presented & handled to perfection. BP, CC & BOB; 2 Dodwell’s Decadance Defender, b/br/w of a very similar stamp to 1, so no surprise to discover they were brothers, super, strong masculine head, good neck & front, moved well both ways although not quite the ground covering gait of 1. On the downside he is bigger & would prefer a shorter back. Very well handled & presented, he really pulled out the stops in the final challenge when others were flagging. RCC; 3 Mamoli’s Belcanto Toreador. JD (3) 1 Dance’s Decadance Deliverance, 9 months b/br/w, very smart & typy with a strong, broad & deep head, gently sweeping profile, one canine inclined. He was a little overawed by the occasion but did settle. Well balanced with a good neck, upright in shoulder, decent topline, broad chest & straight front although feet a little flat. Needs to settle to make the best of himself; 2 Higgot & Neane’s Badlesmere Bering Express, smart little tri of a different type, good profile but not the strength before the eyes of 1, mouth is perfect. Maximum substance for size, he looks good for height but lost out to 1 on overall balance, needing a little more reach of neck & better shoulder. Front is straight, back a little long, strong quarters moving very well behind, smart little showman; 3 Preddy’s Badlesmere Boipelo. PGD (1) 1 Harrison’s Jenkir Thor, typy, masculine b/br/w with plenty of bone & substance, broad, strong head with a perfect mouth, decent length of neck but rather upright in shoulder giving him a longer length of back & putting him slightly out of balance. Broad chest. Front needs to straighten. Good bend of stifle & moved adequately behind, well presented & handled. LD (4) 1 Hopkins & Taylor’s Seayess First Night at Manduessedum, very smart & typy b/br/w, lovely, masculine head with gently sweeping profile, broad, strong & deep, mouth is reverse scissor. A dog of great quality, well put together with good neck, straight front, decent shoulder & topline, moving adequately, took the class on overall quality & type he was a serious contender for the RCC. Well handled & presented I feel his owners can afford greater confidence in his virtues; 2 Hearne & Singleton’s Warbonnet Galetia, ultra masculine r/w with a superb head, sweeping profile, wicked expression, width, fill & depth, mouth correct. Somewhat upright in shoulder he stood down to 1 on overall make & shape; 3 Monaghan, Dubbin & Van Eck’s Debully Enter Sandman. OD (4) 1 Vickers’ Edgar Wilde From Duvessa, typy, smart white with a good masculine well arced head, with width, fill, good expression & correct mouth, plenty of bone & substance this lively showman was on his toes in the class, good neck, broad chest, straight front, short back & strong hindquarters with good bend of stifle, another one in contention but, disappointingly, seemed to throw in the towel during the challenge for RCC. MPB (3) 1 Barrett’s Duvessa Mischief Child Margins, pretty little b/br/w showgirl, very feminine with a good head having arc, width & fill, well balanced with a good reach of neck. Just a little untidy on the move; 2 Goodwin’s Springridge Perfect Star over Spitewinter, really pretty white with red eyepatches. A little overawed by the occasion & rather out of coat but, with a little encouragement, she did start to settle. Good head, long, strong, filled & turned with a correct mouth, one to watch once her confidence grows. PB (6) 1 Richardson’s Badlesmere Bookend at Quayardson, such a pretty little b/w parcel, definite ‘Disney’ factor & made me smile every time I looked at her, tiny, dainty with lovely feminine head having width, fill & turn. Would prefer a smaller eye. Mouth is correct, good reach of neck. Slightly upright in shoulder & a little long in back, an extra half inch on the leg & a little more bone would improve her balance. Straight front & good bend of stifle she was a tad disappointing on the move behind, nevertheless a very pretty package who I am sure will go far. BPB; 2 Dance’s Decadance Dragonfly, beautiful white with a glorious head, deep, wide & very strong, sweeping profile, perfect mouth & excellent expression, super gleaming white coat, good neck but rather upright in shoulder causing her to dip a little behind wither. Straight front & strong hindquarters she was rather disappointing on the move behind; 3 Cooke & Groves’ Belcanto Dorabella. JB (5) 1 Llewellyn’s Merkava Kleopatra by Bullypins, what a beauty, breathtaking, stunning little white who can’t fail to catch the eye, head is lovely, good length, strong, deep, wide, filled & turned, couple of teeth adrift but canines correct, super expression. Super reach of neck into correct shoulders, straight front, short back & good topline, strong quarters with plenty of bend, moving well. Lovely condition, very well handled, took the class with ease. CC; 2 Hearne & Singleton’s Abeneki Rock On ny Warbonnet, 11 months puppy who took a few minutes to settle but one with a great deal of promise for the future. Head is lovely, being long & strong with a sweeping profile & correct mouth, super expression, very typy. Still needs to body up & mature. Moved adequately & definitely one to watch; 3 Presland & Vincent’s White Eyed And Legless in Kofyn. PGB (3) 1 Richardson’s Little White Lie at Quayardson, very smart, well presented & handled white. Head is feminine but needs more profile & strength before the eyes, mouth is overshot & canines inclined. She took the class on her overall construction, being well put together with a good reach of neck, correct shoulder & topline, straight front & strong hindquarters, moving well; 2 Cadenhead’s Cindy Lou Who, feminine r/w in hard condition, similar in head to 1. Although mouth correct, she was a little light in weight & lost out overall to 1’s superior construction. LB (5) 1 Ensell’s Erenden Waltzing Matilda at Minimayhem, beautiful, feminine showgirl who gave it all she’s got, white with a superb head, sweeping profile, width, fill & depth, correct mouth & excellent expression, well balanced with a lovely reach of neck, upright in shoulder, good chest & front although feet could be tidier. Correct topline, good tail carriage she moved strongly & with drive behind but rather close in front. Foursquare & one to be proud of, although only the bridesmaid today I’m sure she will have no trouble gaining her title as the year progresses. RCC; 2 Whittaker’s Wengormick Petite Lady, white of a different type, maximum substance for size but rather overweight. Head is feminine, being strong, broad & deep, not the sweeping profile of 1 but a super expression, mouth is correct. Good neck & lovely deep, strong chest with a better shoulder than 1, straight front, topline & superb quarters with lovely sculpted, clearly defined second thigh, a quality in short supply in both Minis & BT’s at the moment. On another day she will be a worthy ticket winner; 3 Hopkins & Taylor’s Margins Move Over Darlin at Manuessedum. OB(4) These two bitches were of great quality & very difficult to split, with both worthy of top spot. 1 McGregor’s Bullypins Millima of Merlindan, very classy b/w showgirl, feminine head, gently sweeping profile with width, fill & correct mouth. Would like a smaller eye. Well balanced, she is elegant with good reach of neck, a little upright in shoulder, short back, tail a little high set, straight front & strong quarters. Moves well in front but a little close behind. A typy, feminine package; 2 Kedge & Wiles’ Adderswood Vyvyan for Arcazy, I have admired this girl from the ringside but she seemed a little off form today, not having her usual sparkle. B/w, good feminine head, long & strong with arc, width & fill, mouth is correct. Would like a smaller eye. Similar in height to 1 but not quite as foursquare, a little more weight may complete the picture. Broad chest & straight front. She didn’t move so well behind as 1.
