Bull Terriers

Such a shame that entry numbers continue to disappoint. Will we ever see a return to the 100 plus Bull Terriers that were once commonplace? This is the smallest entry that I have ever judged at a Championship Show, but considering the low numbers I felt the quality was exceptionally high. It’s often said that you only need 2 good ones, well I had many good ones here today with a large number perfectly capable of winning CC’s on another day. Very few dogs had in standing canines which seems to suggest we are moving in the right direction, however a few were quite tight against the gum & whilst I didn’t feel the need to penalise any for this, it’s something that should continue to be watched.

1 Sheppard & Howes’ Ragnarok Balder at Polanca, very typy r/w dog, super head, filled up & turned right over. Well placed ears & good eye, deep forechest, short compact body, & well angulated hindquarters. Straight front & good bone. Short deep body. His mouth is undershot, & he moves a bit close both ways but it is difficult to imagine how this dog did not receive his crown during his heyday as he is a dog of truly great virtue;

2 Morgans’ Marshelsea Trouble Coming at Romagna, quality upstanding white dog, very shapely with a decent head. Mouth just off. Beautiful flowing neck & good lay of shoulder. Firm topline. Straight front with well tucked in elbows, good round bone & nice feet. Excellent well angulated hindquarters. Great showman who showed himself off to best advantage. Not quite the head or type of the winner but a quality act throughout.

1 Lamonby’s Emred Devils Tri Star, super masculine white dog with a tri eye patch who took my eye the moment he entered the ring. Power type & substance were all present in abundance. Stunning head, deep, wide & filled up with the maximum profile. Perfect mouth. Great expression with really well placed ears & a good eye. Tremendous bone. Deep barrel ribcage with a deep brisket & great depth of forechest. Ultra short back & compact body, but fails a little in topline. Good wide powerful & well angulated hindquarters. Moved well enough both ways. A top class stallion of a dog. He needs to tighten in front & mature mentally as at just 16 months old he clearly has his mind elsewhere & gave his handler a difficult time. If he gets his act together & pulls himself together he is destined for the very top. CC & BOB.

PGD (1)

1 Busson’s Crisalia Big Poppa, quality upstanding white dog. Strong head, deep & wide, just lacking a shade in fill. Good round bone. Excellent make & shape, he has excellent bodylines, a long arched necked, good front & rear angulation a firm topline & is completely balanced & sound. Unsurprisingly he moved extremely well both ways, drove out with long strides & was completely parallel. Pressed hard for the top awards, but I just preferred the head, expression & tighter front of my RCC winner.

LD (2)

1 Sheppard & Howe’s Polanca Powerslave, big & powerful well marked brindle dog with lots to like. Super egg shaped head, filled up & turned over. Substantial body, deep & strong. Correct bite. His front is straight if a little narrow, & he has a firm topline but is a little ling in long. Strode out well on the move, taking big strides he covered the ground really well. Impressive dog that was well trained & presented in excellent hard condition;

2 Waycott’s Waybully Andromeda, very well made dog of excellent make & shape. Very good straight front with good quality bone & tight feet. Strong head with a smooth profile, & a good underjaw, just lacking a little in width. Very shapely bodylines, a little light in body. Very sound & strode out well on the move. Showed & handled well.

OD (3,1)

1 Emett’s Brookbully Avenger, a quality white dog that I have admired from the ringside & so it was good to finally get my hands on him. He has a smooth, egg shaped head, with a gentle unbroken profile. Tiny well placed eye giving him a dynamite expression. Correct bite but canines a little tight. Excellent straight front, with good round bone. Good shoulder angulation, he has a beautiful, well arched neck & a well-placed shoulder. Well balanced bodylines with correct proportions. Short back. A top quality dog that at just over 2 years of age is just coming into his prime. I would like to see a little more bend of stifle, but he drove well enough from behind & was parallel in front. Certainly a dog of Champion quality;

2 Fletcher’s Indelibull Inkreadible, dark tri dog of excellent make & shape. Very good head with an excellent profile. Outstanding straight front with really tight cat feet. Good layback of shoulder & a firm topline. Really well made & well balanced throughout. A darker eye & heavier bone would complete the picture but nevertheless a quality dog that is very competitive.

PB (1)

1 Sheppard & Howes’ Ragnarok Back In Black from Polanca, very impressive b/br/w puppy. Super head, completely filled up & turned over. Well angulated in front with great depth of forechest, & well laid back shoulder. Nice straight front, Very good well bent stifles, a shade long in back & moved a little close behind. One with a very bright future.

JB (3,1a)

1 Wright’s Star Venture At Rightstuff, very pretty & feminine b/br/w bitch. High quality throughout. Super head, completely egg shaped. Correct bite but with one tight canine. Well-made throughout with a straight front well shaped body & well bent stifles. Rather immature & needs to body up. Seemed a bit overawed by proceedings but gained confidence as time went on;

2 Rakocy & Stachowska’s Barbarian Girl Mithgard at Denerian, tall & statuesque, with plenty of substance. Head of good length & depth. Very shapely with good bodylines. Good straight front but a little light in bone. Good neck & shoulder. Would benefit from having her tail trimmed. Moved soundly. More substantial & mature than the class winner but not the overall quality.

PGB (2,1)

1 Westwood’s Tulsadoom Forty Elephants, substantial & typy bitch with lots of virtue. Filled up head with a good down face. Ears could be better placed. Very good heavy bone. Good depth of forechest. Compact body, deep & strong with a short back & wide muscular quarters. Rather loose in front & needs to learn a bit of decorum in the ring.

LB (6)

Very tight class, difficult to separate some of the minor placings.

1 Godsall’s Ukusa Jezebel to Neverland, tall statuesque & substantial brindle bitch. Great depth of brisket & well angulated shoulder. Strong head of good length with a smooth gentle profile. Perfect mouth. Excellent straight front with good bone. Beautifully made throughout with a long, well arched neck & a firm topline. Excellent wide & powerful hindquarters. Her movement is exceptional, big easy strides, the typical jaunty air, & completely parallel both ways, a real joy to watch. Perhaps not as square or as typy as I would like but she is so sound 7 correctly made, I felt she just could not be denied the CC;

2 Morgans & Wilson’s Romagna Drama Queen, shapely & compact brindle bitch. Beautiful head completely egg shaped. Very well made with a lovely neck. Good front & feet. Very well balanced bodylines. Moved freely. Not quite the substance of the winner & I would like to see her carrying a couple more pounds but she was beautifully handled & looked an absolute picture;

3 Taylor’s Ragnarok Hosten, sound & typy r/w bitch. Excellent head, correct bite but with a tight canine. Very good front assembly with a good neck & layback of shoulder. Nice round bone. Good topline but with a rather high tailset. Shapely hindquarters. Moved soundly but just a little close behind.

OB (4,2)

1 Bloom’s Abenaki Romantic Destiny, lovely typy & square white bitch of the highest quality. Egg shaped head with very good ears & well placed eye. Lovely neck & shoulder. Decent front with nice round bone. Compact deep body, & a lovely short back. Correct topline with just the right amount of roach. Pressed hard for the CC, but I felt she was carrying just a couple of pounds too much which spoilt her underline somewhat & whilst her movement was OK she could not match the ticket winner in this respect. I am sure her day will come;

2 Coverdale’s Unionbul's Diamond Flame, another quality bitch that is full of type. Strong, well filled head, good triangular eye & good ear set. Elbows well tucked in. Excellent reach of neck. Good firm topline which she held well on the move. A little over angulated in the rear but nevertheless a first class bitch of excellent merit.
