ENGLISH BULL MANCHESTER 16 Judge: Mr W R Irving BEST OF BREED : 1424 POTTER Mr S Fashonable Chap By Topfuel ENGLISH BULL JUDGE MANCHESTER 16 Bull Terriers This was the first time that I had awarded CCs to Bull Terriers despite having had an association with the breed many years ago. I was naturally disappointed by the lack of entries. The number of dogs entered was only 25, so with five absentees this meant that there were only 20 of the breed present. It would therefore be foolish to generalise about the breed on the back of such a thin entry. I was happy with the top winners & thought that they were well worthy of their CCs & RCCs. I only found one dog with a slightly misplaced lower canine tooth problem, & it was not such as to appear to cause the dog any discomfort. I do wish that Bull Terrier exhibitors would spend a bit more time training their dogs to be a shade more disciplined in the ring. In some cases it was hard to assess the dogs’ movement. It was a pity that the owner of the BOB winner didn’t turn up for the group judging. MPD (1) A. PD (2,1a) 1 Jowers’ Clansman Centurian Player, 9 month old pup, moved better behind than in front. Good head shape seen in profile though needs to fill out a little under the eye to complete the picture. Good neck & topline. Tail set on correctly. Needs time to finish in body & would benefit from some more ring training. BP. JD (3,1) 1 Potter’s Fashonable Chap by Topfuel, a very strong headed dog with good skull, correct head profile & good strength of muzzle. Good ears. Good eye, pleasing in foreface & plenty under the eye. Good length of neck & correct short back & strong topline. Good broad chest. Moved well in front & behind & had plenty of spring of rib. I thought had a good deal of style & type & he outmoved the open dog winner in the challenge for the CC. Went on to win the CC & BOB. As stated above I was disappointed that he didn’t turn up for the group competition later in the day. That is a disqualifying offence in some countries; 2 Wright’s Rightstuff Revelation, not the head of 1 but OK in skull, not perfect in dentition. Could be shown in better fettle & didn’t have quite the bone of 1. Good bend of stifle & correct in spring of rib. OD (5,1) 1 Sineri’s Ch Cosmopolitan Space Oddity Moonflower, a dog with an excellent head & expression, good eye & good head profile with plenty of depth & strength of muzzle. Correct depth of chest & plenty of spring of rib. Could be slightly shorter & firmer in backline. Enough quality bone & good tail carriage. RCC; 2 Dysons’ Gorbain Hellraiser Tawnbarr, an upstanding dog with tail set a shade high. Good feet, scored over 3 there. Good round bone of correct strength, correct pasterns & strode out well. Would prefer a better shaped eye; 3 Busson’s Crisalia Big Poppa. MPB (1) 1 Williams’ Ukusa Effusivem, developing well in head but obviously needs time for that, & to tighten up a bit in movement. Good length of neck, correct spring of rib & good underline. Good backline & enough bend of stifle without being overdone there & correct compact feet. Enough bone but could be a shade more positive in movement. PB (2) 1 Wright’s Star Venture at Rightstuff, very pleasing in head, could be better in dentition. Very good downface & correct strength of jaw. In good balance for a bitch with enough round bone. Good length of neck & moved out pretty well behind & OK in front; 2 Wojcik’s Teenage Love Opalplast, a shade longer in back & needs time to develop in head & body & be trained a shade more for ring discipline. Hard to assess movement which seemed erratic. JB (3) 1 Foster & Bicker’s Bilboen Rubbise Devils Storm, very pleasing headed young bitch who won on quality & type, despite her very undisciplined ring behaviour. Good neck & topline, correct body proportions. When she got moving she did so extremely well. Good bone & correct compact feet. Needs a good deal of ring training to do her undoubted qualities greater justice; 2 Morris & Heath’s Bluepoint Kittihawk, a bitch with a very good head indeed & correct underjaw. Good ears well placed & correct eye. Could be a shade firmer in topline behind the withers at times, & didn’t quite have the movement of 1. Good tail & tailset & correct bend of stifle; 3 Sinclair’s Beebeemi Jocelyn Brown. PGB (2,1) 1 Wannop’s Charishalee Mirror Image, quite good head seen in profile, with good flat skull & correct ears, good neck but could be somewhat better in topline. Moves better behind than in front where her movement was untidy. Enough bone for a bitch. Good underline & good in rib. LB (1) A. OB (6) 1 Clarke’s Ir Ch Debully Crackling Rose, caught my eye from the start. A bit overdone for presentation but good in head with good skull, correct downface with a bit more fill than 2 & strong underjaw. Correct balance with enough round bone. Moved pretty well in front & behind. Correct topline from neck to croup & pleasing in bend of stifle. Went on to win the CC; 2 Hicks’ Bullyon Love Unmeasured for Crisalia, another quality bitch with a good head. Slightly longer in back than 1 & not quite so good in ears but very good skull & good face in profile. Good compact feet. Enough spring of rib & moved well. RCC; 3 Williams & Hawksford’s Javarke Scarlet Moon over Busell. RONNIE IRVING
