Crufts 18 Judge
|
ENGLISH BULL CRUFTS 18 Judge(s): MR D A CLARK I was delighted to have a second chance to judge BTs and Minis at Crufts, after my 2000 appointment took place in early recovery from a brain tumour. That said, I was very sorry this second invitation only arose due to the unexpected death of David Harrison (Sandawana), who was originally due to judge and must pay tribute to David and mourn his passing. The day was full-on, starting Minis promptly at 9:00am and not finishing BTs until just before 5:00pm, with only 20 minutes break in between. Many thanks to all exhibitors for presenting an entry of 57 (for the record: in 2000 I had 84 dogs, making 92 entries with 16 absent), including seven from overseas, with eight absentees, reflecting a 20% increase on last year's 48. As lower entries are now the new-normal from consistently higher entries of 30 years ago, I was absolutely delighted with the entry, turnout and depth of quality across both sexes, particularly the bitches, which were a joy to go over. I found my DCC in Littlefair's powerhouse of a dog Dikram Midnight Dream, and BCC and BOB in Frank Dyson's exquisite Tawnbarr Starlight, providing me the added bonus of making her up. 1 Twyman's Laronbelle's Magic Visions. Substantial white with a good strong head, with down-face, depth and a correct mouth. Long neck, decent shoulder and good front. Level topline with good tail carriage into shapely quarters, moving freely and with power. 2 Bennett & Pickering's Aldamar Power Storm At Phunsize Sh CM. Quality bb+w in excellent condition for his 10.5 years Good head with a correct mouth. Little upright and not as short as above, but a pleasure to see and a real credit to his owners and excellent young handler. 1 Dodd & Rowlands' Bluepoint Patchogue.Beautifully headed white with arc, width, fill and good dark eye and correct mouth. Plenty of bone and substance with a deep brisket. In good condition with well angulated quarters and, once he got in to his stride, moved well. I describe him as "only 8 months old and a bit of a silly baby". Bless. 2 Godsall's Neverland Devils Own. Lovely, upstanding and masculine r+w. Very typy with a lovely head, having arc, width fill and depth. Good round bone and substance and in excellent condition. Although striking from the outset, in the absence of a vet's report I was unable to place him higher due to him apparently losing a canine due to a cage incident, with his remaining canine unfortunately tight. 1 Mcpherson's Beskermengel Golden Sirius. Beautifully rich brindle and white. Lovely well arced head with width, fill, depth and turn. Mouth a bit messy, with crowded incisors in-and-out, but with correct canines. Good neck into correct shoulder, good topline, well angulated quarters and good tail carriage - would like tighter feet. 2 Hedges' Civert Stop The Cavalry. I really liked this feller: lovely strong, well-arced head, with arc, width and fill - ear carriage just detracting from the picture. Very typy with plenty of bone and substance. A little tucked-up, but his main cross to bear is his front, where he toes-out quite markedly on his right foot. Very typy and showing well. 3 Martin & Vanstone's Diton Dixieland With Puissance. White with good clean lines. Good shoulder, depth and topline. Toes out a little in front and would like more rear angulation. 1 Scott & Sutcliffe's Tilleah Jessee James. Strong winning r+w. Lovely strong head, masculine with arc and depth, would like a little more width. Good neck into correct shoulder and topline and shapely quarters, with tight feet and moving well both ways. Well-presented and handled, in excellent condition with a lovely tight coat. 2 Brown's Coolbuls Kingston Town At Krawen. Upstanding bb+w with a well-arced head with depth, a good expression and dark eye, would like a bit more width and fill. Little narrow in front, but good tight feet, correct topline into shapely quarters, moving well both ways. 3 Von Mererty & Armstrong's Ukusa Porthos. Good strong head, with arc, finish and a good expression. Good bone, with straight front, correct topline into shapely quarters and good tail carriage. Bit out of coat and just losing out in condition to above today. 1 Mundy's Ukusa Hellacious. Imposing and upstanding r+w, I describe as 'burnished copper' enjoying his day and making the best of himself. Lovely head with arc, wide and well-turned - incisors correct, canine a bit tight but not instanding. Well balanced with good bone and substance. Good front, right foot just toeing out a little. Tail a bit high-set and topline slips a little when not on his toes. 2 Chaube's Unfailling Moulin Rouge. Quality all-white with a good strong head with arc, turn and good eye - ears not quite on top. Good bone and substance, toes-out slightly but good topline and tail carriage into shapely, well developed quarters, moving very well. 3 Brown's Coolbuls Kingston Town At Krawen. 1 Littlefair's Dikram Midnight Dream. Extremely impressive and powerful tri. Tremendous bone and substance, oozing power. Glorious head with sweeping downface, depth, width, turn and full to the brim. Great expression with a tiny eye, level bite. Good shoulder with adequate front, correct topline into well angulated quarters, moving well both ways. Pleased to award him DCC. 2 Mitchells' Beebeemi Grandmaster Flash. Very attractive r+w putting in a great performance to secure a demanding and heavily contested 2nd place. Good strong head without exaggeration, with decent profile with finish, width and fill, would like a little more arc. Well balanced, standing fore-square with long neck into well-placed shoulders, good straight front and tight feet. Correct topline into shapely quarters, which he used to good effect on the move, being an excellent mover behind. In superb condition, making the very best of himself and a credit to his owners. RCC. 3 Emett's Ch Brookbully Avenger. I really liked this dog: a beautiful head, which is a pleasure to handle: having arc, width, fill, depth and turn with a punishing expression, presenting text-book type. Excellent bone and substance. Not the rear angulation of above and seeming to lose a bit of steam at the crunch-point, recording "…a lovely dog: if he'd stood-up and shown would have been fighting for top-spot!" 1 Bennett & Pickering's Aldamar Power Storm At Phunsize Sh CM. 1 Klammer's Collinanera Dollys Sweet Desire. 8 year old in excellent condition, with lovely feminine head with arc and finish and good expression, just needing a bit more width and fill. Good straight front and shapely, well-angulated quarters - looking younger than her years and a credit to her owners. 1 Nisbet, Kelly & Kelly's Serenbull Soul Angel. Beautiful r+w showing well. A lovely head with good profile with arc, adequate width, fill, turn and a cracking expression. Good neck, shoulder and topline into well-angulated quarters, moving well. Excellent condition, showing well throughout. 1 Zabinski's Nordbull Naughty N'nice At Zabakrol. Beautiful well-arced head with width, fill, finish and a good expression. Excellent condition with a lovely straight front, good feet, correct topline and tail-set into shapely quarters, moving well both ways. 2 Roughton's La Perla Warbonnet. Very feminine and typy tri with a lovely profile, with arc and finish - would like smaller eye. Good reach of neck into straight front with good feet and correct topline. In lovely condition, showing well throughout. 3 West & Jones's Irazistabull Staring Back. Very typy, upstanding and feminine white. Lovely profile with arc, turn and good expression, just needing a bit more width and fill. Lovely neck, a little upright in shoulder and would like a fraction more bone. Shapely quarters covering the ground with ease. 1 Lightburn's Funkaidellix's Gold Dawn. Exquisite white with a beautiful head, having arc, width, fill, turn, good expression and correct mouth. Good neck, decent shoulder and straight front - feet could be tighter. Good topline and depth of brisket into shapely quarters, moving well both ways. 2 Keller's Rachel Rasels Bull. Feminine white with a lovely profile, having arc, turn and good expression - would like a little more width, fill and depth, and has a butterfly nose. Not the shoulder of above, tail a little high-set but has good shapely quarters moving well behind. 3 Morris & Heath's Bowmountbull Black. Very typy brindle that I liked a great deal. A strong, feminine head without exaggeration, having depth, a punishing dark eye and correctly placed ears presenting a good expression. Good topline, high set tail into shapely quarters, showing well throughout. 1 Dyson's Tawnbarr Starlight. Statuesque beauty of tremendous power and substance, while retaining total femininity. Superb head: arc, width, depth and turned with a punishing expression. She has so much going for her and little to fault: plenty of bone and substance, straight front - to nit-pick she toes out slightly in front. Well-laid shoulder, correct topline and tail carriage, with excellent volume and spring of rib. Shapely, well angulated quarters which she kicks-off to cover the ground with effortless power. Delighted to award her BCC and BOB and her title. 2 Johnson's Javarke River Romance. Quality, bb/w with a feminine head without exaggeration, would like a little more finish. Shapely and well made with good shoulder, topline, tail carriage and powerful, shapely quarters, moving well both ways. 3 Rachel Rasels Bull. What a lovely line-up I was treated to in this class, where I would happily award a CC of all of my placings, with need to leave some good bitches unplaced. 1 Leggatt's Rabram Rolling Deep. Powerful, feminine white with oodles of substance and bone to carry her powerful frame. Exquisite power-packed head with arc, width, fill, depth and a punishing expression. Stands four-square with good shoulder, decent front, with the right foot just toeing out a little. Well angulated, powerful quarters moving well, with real drive behind. A strong winner in this class, presenting the bitter-sweet challenge of having to choose between her and 'Starlight' for the CC. Both are of similar calibre, so having to resort to nit-picking differences, with this girl's slightly untidy incisors just splitting the difference. An honour to have two bitches of such excellent quality in the ring at the same time. RCC. 2 Bradley's Javarke Amara At Olliebrad. A beautiful, feminine white with a lovely clean head with arc, width, fill, finish and a wicked expression. Elegant neck into well laid shoulder, good front and feet, correct topline into shapely quarters and moving well. Good bone and substance, presented in excellent condition and showing well throughout. 3 Smalley's Ch Briden Diamond. Yet another top-flight white. When she's on her toes looks lovely and pushed hard to go higher, just missing her oomph at a few crucial points. Lovely head, with arc, turn, width, fill and good expression. Toes-out a little in front and not quite the movement of above. A top class bitch up against formidable firepower today. 1 Moore's Tilleah Gypsy Biker. Upstanding typy white. Lovely head with good profile, width and fill. Good expression, ears could be a little more on top. Good front and shapely quarters, moving freely, tail-set a little high.
