AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL TERRIER 19 Judge: Mr R Irving BEST OF BREED : 68 WILLMETT Mr & Mrs J & K Wilfnbell Midnight Cowboy AUSTRALIAN JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 19 The entry was disappointing both for quantity and quality and it is alarming that there were no youngsters at all in the lower bitch classes. I started off thinking I should worry about size but in the end had to abandon that idea as so many of the best dogs were well up to size. By and large heads were OK but fronts leave a bit to be desired. I was however pleased with the top winners and no matter how critical I am on this my last time judging the breed, they have certainly improved tremendously since the first time I awarded CCs to Aussies in 1971! 1. Jones' Wyeafon Dai Bach. Not a small dog, very pleasing in head and expression with keen eye, moved well in front and behind. Excellent topline and tailset. Well bent stifles. Best Puppy in Breed and I put him up in the Puppy Stakes later in the day. 1. Mackintosh, Stoddart, Stubbs & Seaton's Temora The Hawk (Imp USA) pleasing in head but could be slightly better in eye. Very good for size and has enough bone. Tailset could be better. Good small feet. OK in rib. Moved better behind than in front. 1. Anderson, & Fast's Outbackred Rahna Jedediah, scored for size and not by any means too big. OK in head but could be longer in body and move with a bit more freedom all through and more positively in front, but was better in hind movement than 2. 2. Bell's Linnearud's Aerevaere Rode Aegon Till Belyndi, OK in neck and topline but was just a bit lacking in bone for his size. Strong head. Movement could be better in front and he moved a shade close behind. 1 Taylors' Wilfnbell Barney's Blue, a biggish dog but pleasing in length of head and OK expression. Better in topline than 2 and had a shade more coat. Good tail, good length of neck and body. Well bent stifles and moved better behind than in front. 2. Ferris & Russell's Wyeafon Percival, another with a good head, could be better in tail carriage. Richer colour than 1. Correct spring of rib and enough bone. Did not have the topline of the winner and could have done with a bit more coat. 1. Willmets' Wilfnbell Midnight Cowboy, good enough for size and he had a pleasing head and expression with enough length of head and correct skull. Good length of neck and firm level topline. OK in set on of tail though sometimes carried it a bit high. Moved soundly behind and jauntily all round. Well balanced and was good in feet. Good ruff and had enough length of body coat, but needed more undercoat. Went on to win DCC and BOB 2. McCourt, Eardey & O'Reilly's Ch Silhill Barney Rubble, another good dog with not quite the length of neck of the winner. Very pleasing in length of head and good expression. Moved well behind but was a bit short of coat. Enough length of body. Needs a bit more leg hair to give appearance of more bone. Went on to win RDCC 3. Skeltons' Spitewinter Ooh Ah Henry OB (5,1) 1. McCourt's Ch Silhill The Sequel, very well balanced with a typical feminine head and excellent eye and expression, Good ears. Enough neck correct set on of tail but could be carried better. Enough bone. Good small feet. Could move with a bit more scope. Went on to win BCC 2. Jones' Dunham Lake She's Got The Look at Wyeafon, slightly bigger than 1 but also has a pleasing head and expression with enough length. Coat not quite at its best. Good neck. Moved OK in front but just a shade closer than 1 behind. A good all round bitch that went on to win RBCC 3. Foskett, Tyrrell, Freer's Wilfnbell Red G'day Sheela
