AUSTRALIAN JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 11

Australian Terriers

PD (1)

1 Jones’ Fire Cracker over Wyeafon, nice little red who is very short of coat & furnishings. Nice head shape, good eyes & ears, lovely reach of neck & spring of rib. Well boned & showed a smooth, even stride.

JD(0).

PGD (1)

1 Cabourn’s Spitewinter Cosmos at Blujohn, bl/t, a little fuller in eye than I would seek & perhaps would benefit from a little longer ribcage. Pleasing in head length & breadth, skull nicely flat, ample reach of neck & his colours are good. Very pleasing in action.

LD (2)

1 Tams’ Millvalley The Exciseman, nice size & length/height proportions, pleasing in head, ears could be a tad neater to aid his expression & although his eyes are a good colour I would like them a size smaller. Scores in hind angulation, let down of hocks & his balanced profile action.

OD (3)

1 CC, BOB, G1 & BIS, Ahola & Hyvonen’s Sw Ch Jaskarin Peperoncino, absolutely stunning & the best of his breed I have ever seen anywhere. I saw him at Crufts when he won BOB & he looked the part then. Just sailed in, posed like a film star, ears never off the top of his head & an anticipatory, almost wilful expression just wanting something to happen. A joy to handle, everything fits exactly as you would want it to & his condition & jacket were exemplary. Must be a joy to show as he never puts a foot wrong, other than being somewhat enquiring as to my breast pocket handkerchief. His action is a joy to watch & I was delighted, if not surprised, to hear that he had won the group under one of the great terrier authorities, Harry O’Donoghue. A triumph indeed;

2 RCC, Fosket, Tyrell & Freer’s Hisnibs, much stronger made all through, but all of a piece & in proportion. Strong head, good eyes, definite stop & very good ears. Powerful body, spirit level backline & well weighted bone. Excellent presentation & he acquitted himself well on the move.

PB (1)

1 BP, Jones’ Wyeafon Red Hot N Sassy, absolutely gorgeous & enchanting red with every indication of being a star in the near future. I loved her head, eyes & expression, long neck, ribs carry well back, her backline is spirit level flat & she was in excellent coat which is so harsh to the touch. Excellent bone, legs & feet, very sound & positive on the move & a real show-off. One to watch.

JB (2)

1 Ahola & Hyvonen’s Silhill Fragola Conpanna, rising star whose title will not be long in coming. Like her kennelmate ticks all the boxes, stunning head & expression, well arched neck, the flattest of backlines & her harsh coat fitted her like a glove. Her angles are good & she moves around the ring with a grace & purpose which is joyful to watch. In the challenge for the CC she decided to play her handler up when coming towards me, but I know it was only her acting up. However, the adult winner of open never put & foot wrong & deservedly won the day. But this one won’t wait long;

2 Jones’ Wyeafon Sugar N Spice, unfortunate to be against the winner whose sheer shape & presence over whelmed her. She has lots to like, not quite the length of neck of Conpanna but if is well ribbed & bodied, very good fore assembly, well boned with good legs & feet. I would like her to have more bend of stifle but what she had she used so well.

PGB (2)

1 Cook’s Wilfnbell Miss Mulberry, bl/t, scores in length & depth of rib, strong loin & her reach of neck gives her an appealing outline, aided by her well set tail. Head is nicely balanced, ears well place & used & in profile her action is even & smooth;

2 Jones’ Wyeafon Calypso Magic, sandy coloured but for me she is just a trifle on the compact side & would benefit from a ribcage which carried further back. Nice backskull which is flat, ears well set, muzzle could be a fraction longer to balance the skull. On the move she steps out soundly & is very active.

LB (1)

1 Skelton’s Millvalley Poosie Nancy, one of the smaller brigade & I would just like her to have heavier bone & more substance all through. That said she is all in proportion, enough reach of neck, very good ribcage & she was in the firmest of body conditions. Moved a little close behind going away, bit side on, but she did very well & kept her shape.

OB (4)

1 CC, Stoddart’s Am Ch Temora’s The Simple Life, lovely type of bl/t, very feminine in outlook, lovely head properties, a really good reach of neck, ribs carry well back to a firm loin & very well angulated hindquarters. Tail correctly set & carried & she was in excellent body & coat condition. Never put a foot wrong & despite some good opposition in her sex, I felt she deserved the top award. CC, her second;

2 Skelton’s Brimartz Catch Me If You Can, nice for size & so well boned & bodied. Regrettably not the skilled coat presentation of 1. Pleasing head, eye could be that shade darker for me, nice ears & co-operative showgirl. Rear action very good, also her profile movement.
